Interdisciplinary teams need a shared record of decisions
Connect the work of different specialists around a common goal.
Research Notes
Outcomes from different disciplines should connect around a single task. This article explores the relationship between content, design, and use, offering a judgment framework applicable to project discussions.
Make problems discussable together.
Strategy, design, and technology may interpret the same task differently. User scenarios, content scope, and delivery boundaries establish shared ground.
Document the basis for each choice.
Each key decision explains its objective, constraints, and tradeoffs. Subsequent disciplines understand the reasoning when they inherit the work, reducing situations where only conclusions transfer without context.
Collaborate on key drafts.
Use real content, interfaces, or spatial examples to discuss implementation early. Drafts become shared reference for both execution and review.
Bringing it into project discussions
- Accuracy: Do facts, names, data, and charts have clear sources?
- Clarity: Can different readers find information relevant to them?
- Sustainability: Can design and content rules carry forward in the next update?
Bring these questions to real materials and use cases, recording the current version, the rationale for changes and feedback from use. When every adjustment has a clear basis, the team can keep applying these judgments in future work.
