How Can Companies Determine Whether an AI-Generated Visual Is Right for Their Brand?

Evaluate candidate images against five criteria: brand identity, information accuracy, suitability for the context, production feasibility, and the source of usage rights.

Brand recognition: check brand fit before visual polish

Before evaluating an image, specify who it is for, what it should communicate, and which brand information must appear. Include the logo, name, visual tone, and hierarchy of the main message in the checklist, and compare candidates against the same requirements. Visual polish can inform the choice, but it cannot replace brand recognition. If the logo is wrong, the name is inaccurate, or decorative elements obscure the main message, address those issues before discussing visual style.

Suppose you are selecting a key visual for a brand event. Place the candidates in the intended page and ask people outside the project to identify the brand name and restate the image’s main message. If they can describe only the atmosphere but cannot find the brand or misunderstand the theme, adjust the placement of brand assets and the information hierarchy. Use this feedback only to identify possible revisions; it does not constitute statistical evidence of market performance.

Information accuracy: verify the product and every piece of text

Check the product’s form, device structure, ports, labels, model numbers, figures, and depicted functions against existing materials. Also inspect unusual hands, pseudo-text, and invented labels. Product staff should verify images that depict product functions. The visual team is responsible for visual assessment and should not independently confirm business facts. When information is missing, seek clarification rather than filling the gaps with generated content.

Suppose a candidate image shows a device whose ports or labels differ from the existing product documentation. Even if the composition works, mark the specific areas and ask the appropriate person to confirm them. Add correctable details to the revision list, and remove or hold any depiction of a function that cannot be confirmed. Acceptance requires verifiable text and supported product features; pseudo-text and invented functions must not remain in the finished asset.

Context fit: assess the image in its intended channel

Do not assess candidates only in a large image preview. Place them in the page or display panel at the actual publishing size, and check whether the audience can recognize the brand, understand the main message, and find the next step. Also verify the usage context, channel dimensions, audience, and publication date. Compare options against the task defined in the brief, rather than substituting the number of generated images, production speed, or internal preferences for an assessment of context.

Suppose an image is intended for an event registration page. Check the relationship between the headline, key visual, and registration entry point in the intended page. Ask people outside the project to read it with the task of registering, and record their understanding of the event, mistaken interpretations, and unresolved questions. If the main message becomes hard to read at the smaller size, or the image suggests an inapplicable usage scenario, adjust the composition or choose another candidate. Review the revision using the same task.

Production feasibility: specify which details require manual work

When selecting an image, also list the imagery, text, and brand assets that require manual correction, and assign responsibility for each revision. Change only a few variables per round, and retain the brief, prompts, reference files, and output versions so the team can determine whether differences come from composition, tone, or contextual requirements. If the problem stems from insufficient product information or source materials, return to the brief and add the missing information instead of generating more similar versions.

Suppose a candidate has a suitable overall direction, but its logo, text, and part of the device need to be rebuilt. A designer can confirm the required revisions and complete them before formal delivery. At acceptance, check that the revisions have actually been made, rather than merely promised. Any product details that remain unconfirmed should go back to the appropriate person. Drafts and approved versions should also be clearly distinguished so colleagues do not use the wrong asset later.

Rights and sources: confirm the basis for use and responsibility before publication

For an image intended for publication, retain the original generated files, sources of reference materials, revised versions, intended use, and approval records, and confirm font and image licenses. When inputs involve personal information, client files, or unpublished materials, follow the company’s approved tools and handling rules. Share sources, restrictions, and outstanding verification items with the team alongside the assets. If an image license or the basis for a key fact cannot be traced, hold publication until the records are complete.

Suppose an image has passed visual and product review, but permission to use one of its reference images remains unconfirmed. Verify the conditions of use before completing publication approval. Assign a content owner and review date, check affected pages and assets when the business changes, and tell colleagues the final intended use, responsible person, and correction channel.
